Getting to Know Me
A Little About Me
Most people in the Elk Valley know me today as a real estate agent and REALTOR® with RE/MAX Elk Valley Realty, but my career has taken me through utilities, project work, business development, post-secondary education, real estate administration, leadership and community service.
Before real estate, I spent several years with Corix Utilities, where I held a number of roles including Data Analyst, Dispatch Coordinator, Administrative Supervisor, Call Centre Supervisor, Office Supervisor and Safety Administrator. That work put me in the middle of large utility projects involving organizations such as FortisAlberta, ATCO Gas, the City of Medicine Hat and BC Hydro. I worked with everything from contract management and business development to scheduling large field teams, commercial account management, procurement, safety and data analysis.
That experience taught me very quickly that large projects succeed when the right people, information and resources come together at the right time.
My Time at SAIT
One of the most interesting chapters of my career was my time at SAIT, where I worked with the Centre for Applied Education Innovation. My primary role was Executive Assistant to the Director and Department Coordinator, supporting leadership teams, academic governance groups and institutional initiatives while also working in business development, project administration, contracts, procurement and data analysis.
In 2019, I stepped into the role of Program Development Coordinator, and that is where I really had the opportunity to work on projects from idea to implementation.
My responsibilities included assessing program needs, developing proposals, building budgets, managing projects and contracts, engaging stakeholders, coordinating governance approvals, tracking project progress and leading cross-functional teams.
The projects themselves were incredibly varied.
I worked on program development for Commercial Pilot Training, Respiratory Therapy, Logistics Management, Retail Management, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Mapping, Residential High-Performance Design and Construction, Occupational Health and Safety, Airport Operations and several other initiatives. Some involved developing complete programs, while others required building proposals, coordinating subject-matter experts and helping move ideas through SAIT’s internal approval processes.
Two of the projects I’m especially proud of show the kind of work I enjoy most: finding a problem and figuring out a better way forward.
For several years, I coordinated SAIT’s Student Instructional Reporting project, which involved roughly 60,000 student surveys each year across nine schools and six campuses. The project ultimately replaced a labour-intensive process with new software and an automated system.
Then, when SAIT’s campus temporarily closed in 2020, I converted a paper-based triplicate employment contract into a digital process for our department. Employee Services later adopted the digital version for use across the institution.
Those projects probably say more about how I work than any job title could. I like understanding how something works, figuring out where the barriers are, bringing the right people together and finding practical ways to make things better.
Real Estate, Business & People
After moving into the real estate industry, I worked as an Office Manager, handling conveyancing, contracts, accounts, procurement, building operations, data and administrative support before becoming licensed myself.
Today, as a REALTOR®, I use many of the same skills in a very different setting: negotiation, research, contracts, problem-solving, communication and helping people make informed decisions.
I’ve learned that whether you’re developing a new educational program, coordinating hundreds of workers on an infrastructure project, running an organization or helping someone buy a home, the fundamentals are surprisingly similar: listen carefully, understand the information, ask good questions and build a solid plan.
Community Matters to Me
Outside of work, I tend to stay busy.
I’m involved with the Elkford Snowmobile Association, the Elkford Rod & Gun Club, and the BC Wildlife Federation’s Learn to Hunt and Fish program, along with teaching archery and supporting youth outdoor education. I also serve in governance roles, including as president of a condominium corporation.
My résumé actually reflects a long history of volunteering and board leadership. I’ve served as president of two non-profit condominium corporations, worked with budgets and bylaws, communicated with residents and owners, and helped boards navigate decisions and responsibilities.
I enjoy being involved because I believe communities are strongest when people are willing to contribute more than just an opinion. Sometimes that means sitting on a board. Sometimes it means organizing an event, teaching a kid how to shoot a bow, helping at a snowmobile event or simply showing up when extra hands are needed.
I’m a Big Believer in Sharing What We Know

Writing has become one of my favourite ways to learn and share information. Sometimes I write about real estate. Sometimes it’s community, conservation, the outdoors or something happening in my own life.
For me, the blog isn’t about presenting myself as the expert on everything. Quite the opposite.
I believe there is a lot of power in being curious enough to ask questions, doing the research and then sharing what you learn. Knowledge gives people the confidence to ask better questions and make better decisions, whether that decision involves buying a home, understanding an issue in our community or learning something completely new.
At the End of the Day
My career hasn’t followed one straight line, and I’m glad it hasn’t.
Utilities taught me about infrastructure and large-scale operations. SAIT taught me about project development, governance, business cases and turning ideas into workable plans. Real estate taught me even more about negotiation, people and the importance of good information. Volunteering has taught me that leadership often has very little to do with the title beside your name.
All of it has reinforced something I’ve believed for a long time:
Listen. Ask good questions. Understand the numbers. Build a solid plan. Then make sure the work gets done.
That’s probably the simplest way to describe how I approach just about everything.
One Last Thought
Municipal elections are about more than names on a ballot. They’re an opportunity to think about what matters to you, what kind of community you want Elkford to be, and what qualities you believe good leadership should bring to the table.
As Election Day approaches, I encourage you to learn about the candidates, ask questions, have conversations, and think about the values and priorities that matter most to you. Consider the kind of leadership you want representing this community, not just for the next four years, but for the future we’re building together.
